HOW TO COOK BLACK RICE

Black rice, also known as Karuppu Kavuni rice has many benefits. It is a healthy variety of rice that offers lots of health benefits.

Black rice, also known as forbidden rice, is considered a neutral food and does not have a specific cooling or heating effect.

Black rice gets its signature black-purple color from a pigment called anthocyanin, which has potent antioxidant properties.

Karuppu Kavuni Rice is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and essential minerals, this superfood nourishes your body while delighting your taste buds. Black rice supports heart health, regulates blood sugar levels, and promotes radiant skin. With Black Kavuni rice, you can truly have it all – taste, nutrition, and well-being!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup black rice
  • Salt to taste
  • Water – 3 cup
  • Pressure cooker

METHOD

Clean , wash , rinse and soak the rice for minimum 8 to 12 hrs.

Once soaked don’t discard the water.

Transfer the soaked rice + 3 cup water + to a cooker.

Cover and pressure cook on medium flame upto first whistle.

After first whistle , turn the flame to lowest and cook for 12 mins .

Once done off the flame.

Give gentle mix and serve.

After cooking , the rice will be sticky or like oil coated .It has a chewy texture and a mild nutty flavor with earthy sweet and Savory undertones.

NOTES

If you forgot to soak for 8 hours but still want to cook rice then soak it in hot boiling water for 1 hour and then cook it.

While cooking you can add few whole garam masala or fried onions for more flavour .
